What is A REstorative Justice?
Restorative justice is a framework that focuses on addressing the needs of the youth responsible, the victim and the community as a whole. Restorative practices are focused on accountability and repairing harm caused rather than "punishment". Youth in these programs admit responsibility for their actions and take the necessary steps to address any harms.
The 5 Core Values of restorative practices are respect, humility, compassion, honesty and spirituality. |
Respect Acknowledges the dignity and worth of each individual. Participants are accepted and heard equally.
Humility The strength of character to recognize the humanness of self and others.
Compassion Enables participants to take positive action to repair issues which contributed to the harm done.
Honesty Accountability cannot be achieved without honesty.
Spirituality Allows participants to speak from the heart to find better understanding and healing.
